Rather than post another Espion photo today, I’ve chosen something to illustrate the story of the Flickrwall – Newcastle upon Tyne’s most dynamic ultra-low tech creative space and our own bit of Flickr right here in the centre of the city.
Despite having passed it countless times since I’ve been living in Newcastle, and having noticed the ‘Secret Entrance’ arrow before, I’d only walked down the Flickrwall alley once or twice. Flanked by abandoned buildings on both sides (at least one of which was used as a squat two or three years ago), the Flickrwall alley didn’t have too much to recommend it as an attraction - before one Flickr user sparked everyone’s interest.
Iambigred started the Flickrwall by chalking this message, which was followed by another and another; since then the Flickrwall has developed into a combination of community space and collaborative artwork (link to an earlier incarnation).
If you’re in the area and feel the urge for some spontaneous creative expression, head down to the Flickrwall … and share your additions with us at the Flickrwall group.
A number of flickrwallers have blogs and have posted about the flickrwall already:

Lastly, if you know who this mystery flickrwall admirer is – please leave a comment in the group (especially if it’s you!)
