A bit of shameless promotion here - this photo has also been posted to Espion Daily's relatively new sister blog, documenting a photo album from the 1940s that I found at the Marche des Vances in Paris in August.
Carin is one of two daughters of a Swedish family that went to Paris to stay with the young French woman who took most of the photos.

Near Fenwicks
An alleyway by the side of Fenwicks on Northumberland Street in Newcastle, leading to a Methodist church. This didn't come out quite as I'd hoped.
The person at the left was doing something furtively in the doorway. Usually in Newcastle this means one of two things, neither of which are likely to be a pleasant sight - but he had his back to the door rather than to the street.
It turned out he was drinking a coffee. Really strangely, like he expected someone to steal it.

A few steps along from a shot I posted yesterday on Flickr from my Zenit 122. I've been shooting a lot of film recently, enjoying the differences from digital and the delayed gratification of not being able to get instant confirmation of whether a shot has been successful or not.
Over the weekend I was alternating between the Zenit and my Fuji S5000. Aside from missing the satisfying, mechanical clunk that the Russian camera makes when the shutter is released, it was very apparent that the Fuji often overexposes on P or Auto settings. I've resolved to shoot with the manual settings much more often.

Cobra
Designers and manufacturers of Catamarans. If you're ever in desperate need of a catamaran, you know who to call. Naturally, as they're made in Newcastle they must be the finest catamarans you can buy.

Road Sign
Directions to the city centre. So, what's happening with the colour? I decided this morning that I really don't like it at all in white. White on black may be harder to read, but it's a photoblog, and I don't mind too much if my perfunctory sentences or ramblings are skipped over.

Munchies. Newcastle wouldn't be the same without its premier grease palace, a temple to the wonders of kebab meat and chips with garlic and chilli sauce.

Alleyway
On the basis that I'm probably never going to get round to a proper redesign, a colour change. The white better complements flickr, and I liked it on my found photos blog, Sweden 1947, so I'll see how this works for a while...
Yesterday - inspired by Brendadada's example - I put some Ilford FP4 in my ropey old Zenit 122 and set out to take some photos.
While the 122 has a TTL lightmeter, the one on my Zenit appears to be knackered, as it was reporting correct exposure with the lens cap on. Genius. I had to guess for each shot instead, so it's unlikely that any frames will come out correctly exposed.
This alleyway looked promising initially but was unfortunately completely devoid of anything worthy of photographing. No idea what I'm looking at here. Probably just reeling from the stench of decomposing rubbish and regurgitated alcohol.

So That's Where I Left It
Last of the Paris series today. I've been trying to identify this statue without much success - it's of a centaur with various pipes and construction implements rammed where the sun doesn't shine. Really.

Jardins du Luxembourg
Same place as yesterday's espion shot, from a different angle. A bride and groom were having photographs taken on the lawn, although I don't think it was a real wedding, probably just a photoshoot.

Alsace
While I was in Paris last week, I made it a priority to go to the Marché aux Puces de la Porte de Vanves to look for photographs, as I'd heard that it was often quite good for photography. While browsing around the stalls, I came across one with postcards and spent a good half an hour looking through them in sheer wonderment.
I'm not sure when this was printed. Initially, I thought it was WWI era - my current feeling is that it might be interwar, twenties perhaps. Or maybe 1933, which would explain the number at the bottom left. I'm guessing.
I haven't managed to decipher the postcard in its entirety yet - what I have done is below. I would appreciate any help - and feel free to correct my French.
It's addressed to a Lucien someone - Meil, maybe?
