On my walk to work in the morning.

Ice Creams
Ice cream vans always seem to come out well on toy cameras - something to do with being evocative and symbolic of childhood, maybe.

Smokey Joe
The last time I went in this shop - I don't know if it's a pawn brokers, but it's the same kind of thing - and it ended badly. They were clearly totally bonkers. I was looking for a VHS player with s-video connectors, and they tried to overcharge me by about 150% for one that clearly didn't have any. They then got really aggressive when I didn't want to pay them. Which is a bit annoying as they have some really nice medium format cameras in the window now.
After being inspired by some of the writing I've seen on a few blogs recently, I'm mulling over something new for Espion Daily. I'll try it out and build up a bit of a reserve to see how it works, but I think it might work. It's may not be 'serial' enough to keep people interested, but it'll be more interesting than describing the photos, I hope.

Another Long Wait on Pilgrim Street
Near the old, abandoned Odeon building and the ever changing, independent Tyneside Cinema... perhaps someday the Tyneside will grow organically over the bus lanes and breathe new life back into that derelict building.

Dress
Durham Miners' Gala, 2006. I saw her from some distance away, not because she was dressed differently from the other women her age, but because she moved in contrast to the chaos around her - effortlessly and with obvious purpose - down the bank in a crescent shape and finished in the exact place I knew she would stop at in the frame.

Permit Holders Only
Can't remember where this was, but probably Saltwell park. I still have a roll of film I shot on my Holga there, but I've no idea where it is. On that roll is a shot of a fight between two swans that I caught closer up than was probably advisable, and it may well make for a good set if I ever find out what I did with it.

Gates
In Ponteland - as I took this, a car drove past and someone shouted 'fucker' out of the window at me. Adoring fans, eh? :)
20060711
7
I have to do a number check on my espion pics to see how many numbers there are - after almost 500 you'd think there would be a few.
20060710
Tag
There's some less-crap-than-average graffiti round here, and some stickers. Not good enough to photograph properly, but not totally awful either...
20060709
Paramedic
There's always weird stuff going on down Warwick Street - I think this was accompanying a police raid.
20060708
Between the Trees
The sculpture outside of Northumbria University (again, but from a different angle)

Kodak Vericolor on an Holga - light leak courtesy of me not sealing the film tightly enough... it looks OK here, but some of the other shots didn't fare so well...
20060706
Pharaoh
Supposedly, the previous occupant of my flat used to feed Pharaoh salmon, which might explain the unusually keen interest in me.

Pilgrim Street Advertisements
My musing over the future of my espion blog comes down to this: I have to put some time in to doing the things I've been meaning to do with it for a long time. Number one - add some people to the blogroll - hardly a gruelling job.

Yards Ahead
No idea what they're doing to the road down by the Civic Centre... perhaps building a giant monument to comemmorate Nick 'I'm Outraged' Forbes' 100,000 appearance in consecutive editions of the Evening Chronicle?
20060626
Looking Up
... at the soon to be redeveloped Tyneside Cinema building, which also houses (or used to) the Newcastle Buddhist Centre.
20060625
20060624
Plastic Flag
Record so far: 5 plastic flags on a painter-decorator's van going down Warwick Street - one on each corner of the roof, and one at the front attached to the aerial.
20060623
Space Needle Carousel
... at the foot of the Space Needle in Seattle. Shot on Agfa CTPrecisa and cross processed.
20060622
Merchandise
The crappest World Cup merchandise I've seen so far is a white plastic 'nodding' bulldog, crudely painted over with a red cross. But I'm sure there's worse out there.

Stevenson
I've never visited George Stevenson's cottage on the basis that it would probably be a disappointment, as he wasn't famous for living in a cottage. It seems a bit of a tenuous attraction.

Change Your Mind
A shop window display. Books are my big weakness. I spend too much on them, and never feel guilty, even though I would if it was anything else.
20060616
Freeway
Seattle - despite seeing as much as of the city as it's possible to in two days, it was hard to leave feeling that I'd seen so little of it.
20060615
Staff Wanted
OK - it says Staff Required - but is it worth changing the title? I think not. They don't want staff, they just need them.
20060614
Do Not Allow Your Dog
I'm thinking about starting a new group on Flickr called 'THIS MEANS YOU', based on the premise that many people these days seem to think that these kinds of signs apply to anyone but them. On the flight back from Canada last month, the crew asked all of the passengers to return to their seats because of turbulence. Naturally, that started a rush for the toilets, and even after repeating the request twice more, some people were still attempting to move around the plane.
Cyclists: please use cycle lanes; narrow pavements are not cycle lanes. THIS MEANS YOU!

Ambulance
Something strange was going on that evening. The night before there had been several police cars parked down there; a friend asked me later in the evening whether I'd seen what was happening (I hadn't.)
20060612
Clouds
The sign is for the headquarters of Northumbria Police, but you'll have to take my word for it.
20060611
Wall
Ponteland. Where Alan Shearer lives, apparently. I've always wanted to see his house, to see whether his fence is as well creosoted as rumour has it.
20060610
Road Grit
Please bear with me while I think of something to write about this, other than 'it's a big yellow bin full of grit'.
20060609
Public Market
Pike Place market in Seattle, on a beautiful sunny day in May. This is cross processed Agfa CTPrecisa too, as with some earlier shots, but there's hardly any colour shift.
20060608
Substation
These places always look slightly larger than they need to be, and I wonder whether the electicity workers store interesting things in them, like a fully stocked bottle bar.
20060607
Clock
On Northumberland Street. Every time the clocks go forward (or back) it takes weeks for anyone to change it - so if you were wandering in town without a watch, you wouldn't know anything had changed.
20060606
Max Headroom
I wonder if these are getting higher as the average car gets larger - and whether a BMW X5 would fit under here - they can't be far off 2m.
